About CADS
Mission Statement
As a a program within the National organization, CADS is dedicated to assisting individuals with a disability to lead richer and fuller lives through active participation in recreational and competitive snow skiing and snowboarding.
Who Can Ski?
Any person with some degree of mobility can ski. Persons who are disabled by amputation, muscle paralysis, visual or auditory impairment, cognitive deficiency, etc. are now learning to enjoy winter through skiing.
Moving To Inclusion
CADS is one of the founding partners of this National Program which produced manuals and materials to help Physical Education teachers to include all children with disabilities into their school's sport and athletic activities, including skiing.
How ?
Volunteers are encouraged to participate in Instructor Certification courses from CSIA and CADS to increase their skill levels in ski instruction for all skiers regardless of their abilities. Instruction is available from qualified instructors and dedicated volunteers who adopt Canadian Ski Instructor Alliance teaching techniques and ski equipment to suit the needs of each individual.
Where Is Instruction Available?
There are many ski areas across Ontario that employ instructors who are qualified to teach persons with a disability. There are also many ski hills with Ski Programs for persons with a disability operated by volunteers in association with the local CADS Division.
Why Should A Person With A Disability Ski ?
Why Not! Everyone should be able to participate in a wonderful winter activity with friends and family and benefit from the physical activity and social interaction that are an integral part of this exciting sport. The freedom and empowerment one can experience through this activity can be carried with each participant into their daily lives.
Who Can Volunteer?
Are you a confident skier or boarder? Do you like to help others that are in need of assistance? Can you spare a few hours a week during the winter to help out in our program?
We can always use more volunteers in several different areas including but not limited to: ski instructors and volunteers, administration, fundraising, etc.
Contact us to today to find out how you can help us.
HOW CAN YOU HELP ?
We Need Your Financial Support
Corporate sponsorship and individual donations are essential to CADS being able to meet its commitment to promote, through skiing, the complete inclusion into society of all Canadians with a disability.
We Need Volunteers
Volunteer instructors and assistants run our various programs and we are always looking for energetic people to maintain and expand them.
CADS provides on hill orientation and training sessions in the use of adaptive equipment and teaching techniques for all of its volunteers. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to join our program.
